The Benefits of the Project

  • The construction phase will have significant economic benefits:
    • Create a peak labour force of about 50 to 70 employment positions with average labour force of roughly 30 to 40 persons.
    • Generate expenditures of approximately $35 million, including locally purchased goods and services.
  • The operational phase will provide annual economic benefits:
    • Wind farm operations will require four to six full-time operation and maintenance staff and about four secondary jobs (e.g., snow removal and road work).
    • Operations and maintenance costs for the Project will be approximately $2 million annually.
  • Property tax revenues will increase:
    • Development of project is expected to increase property tax revenues collected by approximately $150,000 to $250,000 annually – with limited demand for municipal services.
  • Secondary incomes will be created for those landowners with an executed Land Lease Agreement for a total of ~ $300,000/year.
  • No material affect to property values: based upon the available literature, there is no evidence supporting the claim that views of the wind farm will decrease property values.
  • Increased investment into renewable energy: contributing to the growth and establishment of Ontario’s growing wind power industry.
  • No emissions of greenhouse gases: every kilowatt-hour of clean, emission-free wind energy produced is a kilowatt-hour that does not require the burning of fossil fuel.
